I mentioned trying a "Drip, Drip, Drip" Mixed Media Challenge a few days ago. I had been a little disappointed with the way the Cajun Craze drips looked a little gory. Well, once I blotted them and allowed them to dry it looked more like rust which was just fine for a masculine card so I decided to go a head and work with the piece:
It kind of resembles an old rusted license plate don't you think?
- The embossed letterpress piece is made with a quarter sheet of Soft Sky which I inserted into a Alphabet Press folder that had been inked with a Night of Navy ink pad. This is a great look that I will try again - even without the drips.
- Since I didn't like the way ink alone looked on my practice piece I mixed the Cajun Craze reinker with some white gesso before dripping it on the alphabet piece. Like I mentioned earlier, reserve judgement until it is dry. The color was less menacing dry.
Once it was dry it sat in my stamping area for a few days before I decided what to do with it. I ended up staying with the earlier You're Amazing stamp set and tried a few different color combinations before settling on this one.
Don't you think the embossing looks kind of like granite ware? I''m going to have to try this again too!
- I did it by inking my stamp first with versamark and then with Night of Navy before stamping it on Ivory Naturals card stock and embossing it with clear embossing powder.
- I cut it out with an Apothecary Accent framelit and sponged it well with Cajun Craze ink.
- The alphabet layer was then trimmed and matted with Night of Navy and then mounted on a Crumb Cake card,( cut 4 1/2" x 11" and scored at 5 1/2" before folding).
- A simple knot with Denim Jean ribbon provides just the right finishing touch.
