Project Life Memories in the Making

polka dot washi tape kept calling me. So, I got it out to play with Sketch Challenge 574 at Splitcoaststampers today.

Here's the sketch:

I used the Project Life Memories in the Making bundle (#140575) which includes the Memories in the Making stamp set, card collection and accessory pack. The strips are from the card collection, the blue and white circle diecuts, washi tape and hearts are from the accessory pack. The circle with love was stamped in Watermelon Wonder (#138323),  punched with 3/4" circle punch and attached with a stampin' dimensional (#104430).

But, then I had second thoughts. I mean, why can't I used two papers with polka dots plus dotted washi tape? You know what I found out? You don't have to be afraid of using the adhesive die cuts. They are forgiving enough to let you change your mind (a few times) and still do their job and STICK!

Oh, I almost forgot, I thought this card needed a little bling so I added really skinny strip of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer paper (#135315) between the dotted strips. Then since that still wasn't enough, I covered the small Watermelon Wonder heart with Clear Wink of Stella (#141897). Here is a close up:

Here is a bonus card today: stamped with PL Memories in the Making.

I could make cards all day with this Project Life Bundle but I'm going to finally get some pictures printed and use them in an album instead...

Getting Inky with a Picture Perfect Color Challenge

Though bright colors like Pacific Point, Cucumber Crush aren't my easiest or most natural feeling colors to work with I decided to go for it and try Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge 564 which also includes Sahara Sand.

I had been reading about how one of my stamping idols, Angela Maine, did a watercolor background resist and thought that might be a good way for me to work with some colors that were outside my comfort zone.

• I clear embossed the bolder starfish image from Picture Perfect (#140520) randomly on a quarter sheet each of Sahara Sand and Whisper White.
• Then I dripped Cucumber Crush, Pacific Point, and a bit of Sahara Sand reinker (#138329, 111840, 105220)
• 0) on my biggest acrylic block (#118483 - Block F), spritzed (#126185) it with water and laid down the Sahara Sand sheet face down on the wet, inky block.
• I picked it up and was NOT impressed. It looked way too dark and splotchier than I had anticipated. I set it aside to dry and went on to the white sheet.
• This time I just added water to the ink that remained. I was more hopeful for this sheet but it was soaked. I blotted them both and put them under some stamp cases.
• I also clear embossed some of the rose and leaf images from Picture Perfect on a piece of Watercolor Paper (#122959) This is what Angela had used. I used different colors on this one so it wasn't exactly in the running for the color challenge so maybe it will show up in a few days, weeks or months.
• Once the sheets were dry I liked the Sahara Sand sheet much better, so I just cropped off a few areas that were a little less than perfect.
• I layered this piece on a slightly larger piece of Pacific Point(#111350) and tied some Sahara Sand Lace Trim (#137866) around it.
• I dry embossed the front of a regular sized Sahara Sand card with the Softly Falling textured Impressions Embossing Folder (#139672) and adhered my panel to the card.

 

• The dessert for this challenge is "get well" so I stamped the "You've got this." greeting from the set of the same name (W#139572, C#139575) and punched it with the Note Tag punch (#135860). 
• I thought it needed a little bit of bling so I attached some rather random Metallic Gold Thread (#138401) and dots of gold foil (#132622).

It was as messy as I've gotten with ink in a while.  And, it was fun!

The Sky is the LImit meets Mojo Monday

After all of the flowers lately, I thought that I really ought to try something a little more masculine. So, in honor of Sale-A-Bration starting in a few hours - tomorrow, I got out the limited edition Sky is the Limit (W#141282, C#141349) to play along with today's Mojo Monday Sketch, MOJO429. 

Here is the Mojo Monday sketch:

Sky is the Limit is a limited edition set that you can get free with a $50 order that is placed anytime from tomorrow through February 15, 2016. I used it with Going Places DSP stack from the 2016 Occasions catalog which also goes live tomorrow, January 5.

I experimented with a couple of airplane images that I cut out with Circles Collection Thinlits (#130911). I stamped them with Real Red ink on Sahara Sand cardstock so it ends up looking darker, more like Cherry Cobbler.  Cherry Cobbler embossing powder  (#122949) would also be great.  Cherry Cobbler Thick Baker's Twine (#138414) makes a great accent.

I picked out 3 Sahara Sand patterns from the DSP stack to use as my layers. Instead of black cardstock to highlight the layers I chose a mostly black pattern from the stack. The circle image is sponged around the edge, first with Sahara Sand and then a thin layer of Memento Tuxedo Black.

With the Mojo Monday Challenge taken care of, I set about using the second image.  I layered it onto a larger black pattern from the Going Places DSP stack that I had textured first with the Boho Chic embossing folder (#138286) and then lightly sanded. Don't you love the detail of this map print?

Double Rose Wonder

You can actually multitask during a Green Bay Vikings game...

I made three passes with the Rose Garden Thinlit [(#140619) - also available in a bundle(#140804) with the Rose Wonder Stamp Set (#140697) to make the card on the left and then used some of the leftovers for the card on the right.

I cut Blushing Bride cardstock with the thinlit in order to fill in the rose details and Mint Macaron to fill in the leaves. I also used the left "negative" of the Mint Macaron and the "right" negative. 

I applied Clear Wink of Stella (#140897) to the detail of the flower before attaching to a card and adding a Mint Macaron Dotted Lace Ribbon (#138424).

Since I had Blushing Bride and Mint Macaron die cuts left over I used them to make a second card. If I did this one again I think that I would stamp the whole greeting in Mint Macaron instead of stamping the "You're in my" in Blushing Bride.

...and the Vikings win!

White on White Wedding Card

Today's Mixed Media Challenge on Splitcoaststampers is Snow so I thought it might be time to do a white on white card I've had in mind.

I first cut a heart from watercolor paper (#122959) with the Bloomin Heart Thinlit Die (#140621) and then cut two more hearts from thick Whisper White (#140272). They were layered all together using a 2-Way Glue Pen (#100425). I like to layer die cuts, especially tone on tone die cuts to help them stand out from the same color background. Then I mounted the thick heart on a non Stampin' Up! 5" x 6 7/8" watercolor card so that I could match the not quite white, not quite vanilla color of the heart. I embossed a flower from Bloomin' Love (#140643), cut it with the matching die from the thinlit set and added some sparkle with Clear Wink of Stella on the petals and a small rhinestone (#119246) in the center of the flower. "Wedding Wishes",  from another 2016 Occasions set, Rose Wonder (#140697) is embossed with silver embosssing powder (#109131) on the lower right portion of the card.
