Twinkle, Twinkle...

...little star

I made this card for a challenge to make our own water-colored plaid.  (It was the Dare to Get Dirty challenges over on Splitcoaststampers last August.)

• This is a 5x7" card - purchased watercolor card/envelope. Sorry, I no longer have the packaging
• I did the plaid by painting diagonal Powder Pink and watered down Marina Mist lines going the opposite directions.
• Gold lines (Zig Painty, retired) were drawn on the upper edge of each line to add a little definition.
• The moon baby was embossed in gold, painted with an aquapainter plus Powder Pink, Marina Mist and So Saffron ink pad lids on watercolor paper.
• The star has Wink of Stella - of course
• I used the largest Layering oval to cut the moon baby out and mounted it with dimensionals.
• Powder Pink finely woven ribbon finishes it off.

Soft Sky Dragon

On any given day the subjects may or may not be related to my blog post.  I'm sharing a Pinterest board, Magical Day Inspiration. I have collected more ideas for magical set than I will ever use so maybe you can make use of them.

Here is a fairly simple little dragon card I made last night. I still have to pick out a dragon greeting to use.  Did you know Pinterest lets you organize a board with sections? So, I have a section just for dragon greetings.

• This guy was a little Wink of Stella on his wings.
• The Powder Pink Tinsel Trim (page 19 of the Occasions catty) has a purple or plum hue that looks great with the Rich Razzleberry wings.
• Coloring is with Blends.
• A slim strip of Soft Sky Foil Frenzy Specialty DSP adds a little sparkle to the Tutti Frutti card base. These cards are a Sale-A-Bration item that is only available for a few more days. I'm on my second pack already.

 

Cake Soiree with Numbers???

I was crossing my fingers that this would work a little better but I'm going to show it anyway.  While there is a Sweet Soiree embellishment kit with delicate little numbers to adorn the cake from Cake Soiree, I wanted to see if you could use the Large Numbers Framelits.  Well, one would work but 2 is maybe a bit much?

• The cake is colored with Crumb Cake, Pink Pirouette, Old Olive and Daffodil Delight Blends, mostly the lighter shades. I was thinking mocha cake...
• I popped up the Pink Pirouette "30" on a couple of layers of Basic Black card stock, thinking it would fit with black outline (Tuxedo Black Memento)
• I grabbed a Crumb Cake washed piece of watercolor background that I had done previously, along with a strip of scallops cut with the Seasonal Layers thinlets  to finish off my card.
• That scallop scrap was in this scrap drawer - the top drawer for the reds:

• This is where I put scraps, various unused elements etc so that they can be reconsidered for another creation.
• Since my Stamparatus arrived I've now decided to keep some of my inkspots in there.
• I've used this 3 drawer stack (I think I bought it years ago at Archivers.) for years in my larger craft room.  Now in my smaller "Stamp Pantry" I find that it is working even better.
• This is adjacent to my work table so I find it really easy to clean these things off my workspace and I also find myself checking it more often for that perfect piece to finish off a card.
• 3 9x13" drawers meant I had to combine colors Reds/Oranges/Purples  Blues/Greens  Neutrals/Yellow is what has worked for me.

Layering Strawberry Love

OK, while all of the little fruit stamps and punches in the Fruit Basket Bundle are fun it was the tiny strawberries that really stole my heart. They are the sweetest you know!

• Simple color schemes like red, white and navy ALWAYS work, especially when heavy on white. In fact go ahead and layer white on white.  I think it is becoming my trademark...
• Try recreating favorite cards you've made in the  past:  Twitterpated Heart was my inspiration here.
• Key ingredients Fruit Basket Bundle with Tutti-Frutti 6"x6" DSP stack, Petal Burst embossing folder, Night of Navy 5/8" Crinkled Seam Binding, Layering Love, Lots of Labels Framelits.

Heartfelt Blooms Monochromatic Trio

Here we are in the last week of Stampin' Up!'s Sale-A-Bration. Today I have a quick trio before I head in to work. I find that I get the crispest image with these stamps when I use Whisper White or Very Vanilla Ultrasmooth card stock.  I tried several on various colors but it's the detail that makes this image rock and it really comes out best this way.

Night of Navy means you have to at least see how it looks with the gingham ribbon! This is simply popped up with dimensionals.

I haven't used Fresh Fig that much but I like it here on Very Vanilla with a scallop I had in my scrap drawer.

Here the blooms are in Early Espresso. The brown layer is actually just a bit of the Wood Textures DSP stack. I used the largest Lots of Labels Framelits, the Simply Stripes EF and a little lace and twine (and dimensionals) to finish it off.

Flying Home with Colorful Seasons

I was a little disappointed that the Stampin' Up! Occasions set Flying Home didn't have it's own greetings but that didn't prove to be a problem once I starting experimenting with layouts for my scallop circle backed bird house. I decided it need a few scallops to provide balance at the bottom of the card. That of course led me to the Seasonal Layers dies, part of the Colorful Seasons bundle in the 2017-18 annual catalog, since it has a scallop or wave die.

• I was able to get a lighter green with the Blends by using the light Soft Sky followed by the light Daffodil Delight. This design also used the Pink Pirouette Blends
• I outlined and added some detail to the flower from Colorful Seasons to mimic one of the flowers in the birdhouse spray.
• "Thinking of You" is from Colorful Seasons.
• Besides the scallop I used the Layering Circles framelits and the Simple Stripes embossing folder.

A Smoky Slate Spin on Petal Palette Thank You Cards

Here are just a few of my Petal Palette card stash.  This set is just so much fun!

 

• Gingham ribbon is one of my weaknesses!
• I colored the Petal Palette (roses with Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive Blends and then, I'm not sure why but I colored the little bit of background with Smoky Slate light Blend.
• That gray background led me to pulling out the gingham ribbon and ultimately stamping up a whole stack of Woodgrain background layers in both Smoky Slate and Whisper White Craft.  This card is layered on Smoky Slate stamped with Smoky Slate.
• I used a smaller layer of Rich Razzleberry cut with a smaller square from Stitched Shapes Framelits.
• The thank you message is also from Petal Palette, cut with one of the coordinating framelits. sponged and embellished with a Glitter Enamel Dot

 

This next card is a little less feminine but still has attention to detail.

• I cut 3 of the smallest squares, again from the Stitched Shapes framelits, out of water color paper because I wanted that touch of texture that watercolor paper has.
• I made a template in order to get my squares evenly.
• You need to use a reverse image technique (I used a silicone mat.)

Let the Good Times Glimmer

I wondered what a little glimmer would do with the Let the Good Times Roll Bundle (#145959).

The clouds are iridescent glimmer paper.

I used both the iridescent and turquoise glimmer papers form the Myths and Magic 6"x6" Glimmer Paper (145601)

• Other colors are Bermuda Bay, Berry Burst, Soft Sky and Smoky Slate
• I used my Blends to color and shade the sky and roller coaster.
• I does take a little patience to press the die cut roller coaster into shape...and glue all the banners on but I think it was worth it.

Strawberry Grid

I confess that I had initially purchased the Tutti Frutti DSP stack without the Fruit Basket just because the paper was so cute.  Once it was in my hands though I decided I needed the Fruit Basket bundle with all these adorable little punches.

Anyway, a CAS challenge last December on Splitcoaststampers called for food so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to try out a variation of a strawberries on white card by Amy K featured at Onstage in November.

I used smaller 3/4" squares cut with the Stampin' Trimmer.

Colors for the strawberries are Real Red and Garden Green. The image you stamp will be larger than the punch (one of 4 including a pineapple, pear and watermelon slice!) so it's pretty easy to get it punched correctly.

I got lots of dimension by popping up both the squares and strawberries  on the mini dimensionals.
