Tuesday is Color Challenge day over at Splitcoaststampers and they are featuring Bermuda Bay, Night of Navy, Crushed Curry and Poppy Parade with feathers for dessert. It turns out that two of the regular design team members along with yours truly, as a guest designer for the month, used the rooster from Home to Roost as our "feathers". We should not be surprised as there are SO many possibilities with this bird.
Hints/Notes for this card:
- I had a crisp, maybe retro-like country kitchen idea in mind when I designed this card. Thus my choice of Poppy Parade dots
- The rooster was colored with Blends as shown below in my product list. I used a light Mango Melody + Light Crumb Cake as a substitute for Crushed Curry since there is not currently a Blends marker in that color.
- The zig zig style paper lace border was die cut with the Delicate Lace Edgelit Dies. I've shown these a lot with the fancier scalloped lace on several of my Country Floral cards but wanted you to see more of what is in that trio of border dies. This particular design goes much deeper than what is shown so it provides a lot of flexibility, depending on what your design requires. I keep a a bag of these cut in a few colors near my workspace so I can quickly check to see if I should incorporate them into my projects.
- I knew I wanted my bow oriented a certain way on this card. If it doesn't work the way you envision it the first time you try, untie it and reverse the way you cross the strands before you start tying. That usually gets it in the right direction. Probably would be easier with a video. I'll jot that down on my Facebook to do list...
- The Striped Scallop embossing folder is new to me. So, when I ran my rooster and message through it with the Big Shot I didn't pay attention to which side was front versus back and did it backwards. Arghh! Then I decided that having points on the stripes as opposed to scallops seems appropriate with the pointed lace and the whole idea of a rooster. Maybe it works?
