Today I'm hosting the color challenge over at Splitcoaststampers. Since I'm very impressed with Pantone's choice for color of the year (and I'm more than a little in love with Stampin' Up!'s In Color, Blueberry Bushel) I chose Blueberry Bushel + Seaside Spray + Whisper White as my colors and added in the option of using sky as dessert. In the course of coming up with my design team card I managed to create 3 cards with the Parisian Blossoms Suite:
- The middle card with the blended sky is the one I eventually used for the challenge. Like other blended background cards I've shared in the past this one has refill inks mixed with white craft inks applied to Whisper White cardstock with sponge daubers. I've actually tried some of those make up blenders and find that the sponge daubers are easier to use and put less pressure on my wrists.
- I trimmed off just a bit so I could have a vertical border which is accented with a tiny strip of Blueberry Bushel Foil paper which can be found in the Noble Peacock Suite. Sometimes the 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" format feels a bit boxy to me. It's still such a convenient size to use so I give it a little more vertical look by often incorporating vertical borders.
- Sparkle Glimmer paper used to die cut the detailed Eiffel tower gives a little bling as does the Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewel which has carried over from the Holiday catalog. Aren't you glad? - I think this package has a lovely color assortment that is useful all year round. Find out more by clicking on it in the supply list.
- This color challenge also allows players to add colors from Stampin' Up!'s neutral collection so I wanted to do a softer card with challenge colors by adding in a little Gray Granite.
- The "cherry blossom" image is stamped with Gray Granite ink and colored with the Seaside Spray Blends Combo with a few Light Light of Navy Light Blends accents. I've always thought of the Night of Navy Light as being pretty close to Blueberry Bushel...
- I used my white craft pad to apply ink directly to the Parisian Flourish 3D embossing folder before running it through the Big Shot with the Gray Granite cardstock. Hint: apply the ink to the inside of the folder on the side with the Stampin' Up Label. While it's perfectly fine to use the other side fro something different, using the label side will usually get you what is considered the right side.
- I used the Seaside Spray Blends Combo to color the 1/4" white seam binding from the Peaceful Poppies Suite. I first colored the whole 8" strip with the light color and then just added a little of the darker color along one edge. This helps to give it a hand dyed look.
The Eiffel tower die is so detailed and pretty and it was fun to try it in all sorts of papers, so I had enough pieces to make quite a few cards.
- This one uses both the Noble Peacock Foil and the Specialty DSP. The foil is used for the tower and I used vertical borders of the specialty DSP which also comes in Blueberry Bushel and is foiled with at pattern. The flower is from the Parisian Blossoms Bundle.
