Today I'm working with a Stampin' Up version of the Pantone 2021 colors of the year: their versions are Ultimate Gray and Illuminating (a yellow).
Since I'm hosting these as a color challenge over at Splitcoaststampers this week, I also got to choose dessert, which is something that moves. Well, I chose a few things that have some moves all right. Dance moves!
I didn't exactly have these in mind when I suggested the challenge, but I knew that between Darling Donkeys, Chicks, Snails and Butterflies I would come up with something. Here's my first card:
- I used large Basic White Memories and More card for my base. These are a little taller than A2: 4.25" x 6.25".
- Both cards feature the 6" x 6" DSP that is available in color groups. Daffodil Delight is from the Brights package and Smoky Slate is from the Neutrals package. Most products used are shown at the end of my post with links to my store.
- I had started playing around with combining Blends Markers with my Watercolor Pencils last week. I used blends as the first layer and then added more lines/ detail with the pencils. It didn't really make that much difference in these cards though it is easier to have keep your color from bleeding outside of the lines if you use pencils for the edge shadows. Plus, you can take advantage of the sketchier look if you like, as I did here:
-
- Embellishments include the Well Suited Twine in Basic Gray and Daffodil Delight Resin dots from the Playing with Patterns Suite.
For my second card with these colors, I used the latest TGIF challenge which is to find inspiration in the January - June 2021 Mini catalog.
I took my inspiration from the tall center panel in the sample Hey Birthday Chick cards on page 52. If you don't have a catalog handy you can see them here:
- This is a regular A2 (4.25" x 5.5") card. Panel cards are typically pretty easy to do measurements for. If I'm not making multiples I really don't need to measure much.
- The part that I was a little fussy about was trimming the strips of the Smoky Slate DSP to be just 2 columns of dots wide. I attached them to either side of my main image so that only half circles showed, giving the effect of scallops.
- Can you tell that I had a couple of "oops" on this card? I forgot that I had re-inked my Memento pad before stamping the images and greetings so some parts were just a wee bit dark. Once I was done I decided to cover them up with some new images, thus the popped up balloon and flagged message at the bottom of the card. Having matching dies made that easier to do. These will be available February 2. The Hey Birthday Chick Bundle (#158631) is $43 (US). The Birthday Chick Dies alone (#158200) will be $27.
As I mentioned yesterday, I will keep adding cards as I go to galleries by stamp set, bundle or suite. You can find the Hey Chick and Hey Birthday Chick Gallery here.
