Today I'm hopping with Around the World on Wednesdays and if you love cards with special folds this one is for you. Grab your favorite beverage and get comfortable because this month's theme is Fancy Folds.
To be honest, I don't make many Fancy Fold cards but every time that I do I usually ask myself why I don't try them more often. This was extra fun because, since we have a new Stampin' Up! Catalog there are so many new toys to try out. Today I'm using the Party Puffins again and mixing them up with the new Basic Border Dies.
Design Tips:
- This is a really easy fold to do, especially if you are familiar with using both the ruler and the scoring blades on the Stampin' Trimmer. I used the Splitcoaststampers pattern by our blog hop's own Wendy Lee. You can find it here.
- I chose my colors around the colors in the new hostess designer series papers, Pattern Party. I had planned to use a colorful stripe on the side panels, only to find out that I preferred the way that the mostly black with tiny white dots pattern recedes better and seems to emphasize the special folds in this card.
- Since I'm not that familiar with puffins I googled them and most of the real and artistic renderings had them standing on rocks. Usually ragged rocks but I used some artistic license and made some smooth rocks with my new border dies. I cut them from Gray Granite cardstock and added some extra Gray granite ink with my Blending brushes. The cloudy sky also makes us of the cloud shaped die in that set.
- I used watercolor pencils to do the little bit of coloring.
Here's one more shot:
Now it's time to see what the fabulous Brenda Nelson has in store for us.
