Today's Crafty Collaborations Blog Hop is all about Pressure Embossing techniques.
I couldn't resist joining in to share one of my favorite techniques, one I call Carved Stone. This is basically just tapping your white craft ink pad on the inside of a 3D embossing folder and then embossing a piece of Basic Gray cardstock. Of course you can use any color of ink or cardstock with pressure embossing but when I use these I get a look that I think of as stone (like the Lake Superior basalt) that has been carved.
- While you want to get a good amount of ink on one side of the inside of the folder, don't push too hard. You want to ink most of the raised parts of the folder which will result in the recessed parts of your cardstock taking on the white ink.
- Usually I get the best results by inking the side with the Stampin' Up! Logo. I used Stampin' Up!'s Parisian Flourish 3D folder.
- I used my "stone" piece to highlight today's Splitcoaststampers Color Combination: Fresh Freesia, Polished Pink and Old Olive. I really think the gray background made these beautiful colors pop.
- I also used Basic Gray ink to stamp my images and the greeting. The colored sprig is colored with Fresh Freesia, Polished Pink and Old Olive Blends. I also used Light Smoky Slate on the white Seam Binding.
Here are a few other samples of the carved stone look.
- The finished card on top was a quickie I made with a standard embossing folder from the Thanks & Hello duo. You can see it doesn't have quite the same look as the 3D folder but it still puts more emphasis on the design.
- I added a lovely detailed Basic Black fern cut from the Iconic Dies.
- Other folders used are Hammered Metal 3D and Dandelions 3D.
