Welcome back for this month's Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop as we shake it up!
Every month, on the second Tuesday, several demonstrators from all over the world put together a blog hop. This month our theme is "Shake It Up".
When you check out the other blogs you may see more shaker cards OR any other way that my fellow artists chose to shake up their art and try something new.
Me, well I decided to take this theme literally. It's been at least two decades since I've done one of these shaker cards. Before die cuts, before embossing folders and before, I think, I even had dimensional adhesives. I suspect that might be why I haven't done one for so long. I had to use the leftover rubber scraps from trimming my stamps. My we've come a long way. It was so much easier this time!
- One of our new Halloween Bundles, Frightfully Cute, seemed like a natural for this project. While this bundle definitely does the cute theme I thought I would push it to a little scarier tone: from inside the witch's house. I sponged Tuxedo Black ink on a piece of Cinnamon Cider that had been embossed with the Bricks and Mortar 3D Embossing Folder and had a window cut out with a Stitched Rectangle Die.
- Sequins from Sequins for Everything - in the orange shades worked perfectly for shaking. While I used a recycled cello bag for my window. If you have them though the Window sheets work really well for this.
- Foam Adhesive Strips are really what made this SO much easier than my long ago attempt at a shaker card. You will want to apply the strips on the inner and outer edges of your "frame".
- From there the stamps and dies from the Frightfully Cute Bundle took over the show and really did a wow job. There are so many fun images to pick from. Look closely and you can see the detailed wrought iron fence, tree, spider & web and even bats flying against a full moon. Look a little closer at the detail:
- Hint: use a sponge with glue or adhesive sheets to make sure your die cuts are glued down well or the sequins can get caught in them.
I hope you try one of these too!
Now it's time to check out how the others decided to shake things up. Next on the hop is the uber talented Brenda Nelson:
