The second Tuesday in May means that it's time for our Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop.
This month we have a sketch theme:
I envisioned strips of wood in the background and decided to explore the Country Birdhouse Bundle with it's coordinated Country Woods designer series paper (DSP). Soft, worn colors were also part of the picture forming in my mind.
- As you can see my card base is Petal Pink and the size is A2 - folded 8.5" x 11.
- The next layer is a quarter sheet (4 1/4" x 5 1/2") embossed with Dashing Designs 3D Embossing Folder. This is a great neutral folder. I trimmed this piece down to 4" x 5 1/4". Sometimes the embossing "shrinks" the cardstock just a bit and this is why I start with a larger piece and trim it to size after the embossing is done.
- To finish it off I lightly rubbed a white craft pad across it and embossed with white embossing powder. I considered just having the ink and not the heat embossing but it shows the texture just a bit more when you are using white embossed powder.
- Other than the greeting and the Petal Pink scallops on the bird house, all of the pieces are cut out of the DSP.
- The birdhouse, bird and greeting were stamped in Gray Granite ink.
- The 3 strips are each 3/4" wide. I cut a 1 1/8" piece of the same DSP but used the backside for the wood tone space between the strips. I did this by centering the middle strip on the reverse side and then gluing the edge of the remaining strips to the sides of this reverse piece.
- I tied a bow with Crumb Cake Twine and attached it under the Birthday greeting with a rolled glue dot.
Here is a close up of the softly colored birdhouse:
