Dies with Patterned Paper continued...

I didn't get a blog entry posted yesterday but I DID get a Facebook Live done showing how I assemble these designer series paper (DSP) and die cut cards. Today I'm showing you some of the cards I shared on the video. I won't go into the details because I've blogged about the "how to" here and there are even more hints on the Facebook Live. I will provide product lists for each card individually at the end of this blog post.

The first two cards feature patterned paper from the Painted Seasons Bundle which becomes available as a Free Sale-A-Bration item with a $100 merchandise order (US) tomorrow, February 15, 2019. I used the border die from the Flourish Thinlets and a greeting from Life is Grand, a set from this year's Occasions catalog. Both are done in Early Espresso.

This border die is from the Petals and More thinlets. My greeting is from the Occasions' stamp set Strong and Beautiful and it fits into the little tag die from the Wood Crate Framelits. The ribbon is Pool Party 3/8" Shimmer Ribbon. They don't show well in the first photo but I also used the Granny Apple Green Glitter Enamel Dots.

The Happy Birthday thinlet is cut from How Sweet It Is DSP . The Glitter Enamel Dots also work perfectly with the How Sweet It Is suite of products. Please note that the enamel dots are also the free gift you receive from me with a $50 purchase with my hostess code this month.

Don't you just love the gears from Geared Up Garage Grapefruit Grove foil? This also features Classic Garage DSP.

Does this look familiar? This is another version of the All My Love/Be Mine card that started it all. This time it is backed with vellum which allows embellishments such as Happiness Blooms Enamel Dots to be placed within the frame you use.

Wet/Dry Embossing

I played around with my Flower Garden Textured Impressions Embossing Folder yesterday.

I used So Saffron, Pumpkin Pie, Pear Pizzazz, and just a touch of Early Espresso markers on this one. I left Plenty of paper on either side of the image before pushing through the Big Shot so that I could paly with the image placement. Double Seam Binding bow. Sentiment is from Wonderful Mother stamp set. You're ready for this Mother's Day aren't you?

Here are a couple of others plus a mini tutorial I put together:

"Wet" Dry Embossing Mini Tutorial:

Supplies :

Embossing Folder

Big Shot with standard cutting pads

Markers

Card stock (light color or neutral)

Spray bottle with water

Extra dies or books (to flatten paper)

Color the raised area of one side (inside) of your embossing folder with markers. You could use either side but don't color both sides.

I think it's best to lay your folder onto your cutting plate before misting it with water.

I've found that the colors are more likely to run into each other if you hold it in your hand while you spray it. Of course, if that is part of the artistic effect you want to achieve by all means let it tilt all you want. It's kind of hard to see in the photos but once you do this yourself you will see that spritzing the ink with water actually makes it appear more vibrant. Usually 3-4 spritzes will do the trick. If you spray parallel to you folder just letting the water fall onto the folder instead of spraying directly onto the folder you will get less movement of your ink. Keep in mind that moving the ink around may also be the look you want to achieve. You can't really do this wrong.

Place your paper into the folder. Close it and cover with a second plate before running it through your Big Shot with your regular embossing folder sandwich. When you are done you will see something like this:

Allow to air dry for a short while and then apply weights to flatten over night. I usually place on an acrylic plate and cover with one of the larger dies. If the paper is still a little wavy I often reinforce the piece I've trimmed down with another piece of card stock that's just a tiny bit smaller.

Sometimes I like the image I get right away. Sometimes I'm less impressed. But just about everything ends up being card worthy. It's amazing how a simple setting will set these off:

This one is a CAS sketch challenge, turned on its' side. It is a 4 x 5.5" card.

This is the one that I liked the least.Maybe because I thought the green was too bright. I had switched to Gumball Green with a touch Eggplant Envy at the flower centers. Once it was mounted though it's practically a masterpiece, no?

Watercolor Embossed Poppies

I hit triple today with this card. The pinterest picture challenge (Poppy Cake) from SCS's CAS challenge, SCS' Mixability challenge to use splatters, and the Color Throwdown Challenge:

I took out my ink refills and Flower Garden embossing folder for another variation of Wet/Dry Embossing. I used the refills because I wanted my red to be intense. The green was actually Gumball Green but it too is quite intense and looks close to Graden Green.
I've never been much of a splatter person. I just set the art piece in the waste basket and flicked some ink onto it with my paintbrush.
"Above and Beyond" is from one of my favorite word sets, One in a Million.
Stamping your sentiment on a vellum strip allows you to try out different sentiments with an image or layout with out risking a mistake to your base image.
If you've followed my blog for the past month or so you know I've played with this technique quite a bit lately. You can find out more about it by checking out my Chevron Cards and an earlier Manhatten Flower card.

Of course Stampin' Up! has an awesome Poppy stamp, Pleasant Poppies which would also be perfect for this challenge but I don't have it. Not yet anyway.

I don't have time to write much more this morning but I thought you might like to see the other ideas I tried out for this challenge before deciding I like the embossing folder card the best.

Sunshine and Sprinkles Leaflet

This may be as close to St. Patrick's as I get this year. We'll see. I may not be able to resist the influence if Belle Plaine's Irish...

Anyway, I love to use the Secret Garden leaflet all by itself. What do you think?

This card was inspired by card by Debbie Hughes at Lime Doodle.
Card and both white layers are White Naturals.
Background paper is from Sunshine and Sprinkles.
Circle is punched with 1 3/4" circle punch.
Leaflet is from the Secret Garden framelits.
Embossed stitches were done with the Borders Scoring Plate which works with Simply Scored.
Don't forget the dimensionals. Promise me.

By the tide Crayfish

Can you see that I was playing around with a few ideas on this By the Tide card?

The lobster or crayfish from Stampin' Up!'s By the Tide, (I read somewhere that the biggest difference was salt vs freshwater) was stamped on paper from the First Edition DSP collection.
The Primrose Petal layer is Core'dinations paper embossed with Woodgrain
Ribbon in Natural Trim Ribbon (Stampin' Up! Spring Catalog), tied with linen thread.
Embellishment via Collage Curios, also from the Stampin' Up! Spring catalog
Card base and layers are Ivory Naturals and Crumb Cake

Flower Garden Watercolor

Playing with water on folders again:

Colors are Calypso Coral, Certainly Celery, Night of Navy.
The ribbon is actually the retired Old Olive taffeta. It is now available in Certainly Celery and I think you might prefer the softer look of that ribbon. Taffeta ribbon usually seems a bit lighter than it's named color. But, Old Olive is what I had. It works but now Certainly Celery is on my shopping list!
This was a color combination from last week's SCS challenge. Watering it down seems a bit like cheating but the results were worth it.
The greeting is from Perfectly Penned. It is embossed with white embossing powder.
I couldn't resist putting a little glitter via Dazzling Details on the flower centers.

Manhatten Flower with Wet "Dry" Embossing

Another now day in Minnesota but while DH watched the weather last night contemplating closing school (he did) I was playing with embossing folders and water again. I did work a little on videos but lets just say they still need editing. While I was getting my act together in that department checked out the colors for today's SCS color challenge and decided to try them on one of my folders. After a little cropping here's what I came up with:

Colors are Bashful Blue, Primrose Petals and Raspberry Ripple colored with marker onto the Manhatten Flower Folder.
Spritz the folder, insert Very Vanilla card stock and run through the Big Shot.
Trim as desired, stabilize with an extra layer of VV card stock and mount with Dimensionals onto a Very Vanilla card.

Easter Blessings

Easter Blessings is a single stamp from Stampin' Up!'s Spring catalog.

I've used it here on a background piece that I made while playing around with a mixed media challenge (Water you doing) to use water with some form of ink.
I used markers to ink Vine Street embossing folder and then spritzed water on the folder before running it through the Big Shot with my white card stock.
I used the embossed framelit technique for the oval.
I did the same type of thing on an acrylic block except I used re-inkers instead of markers. The acrylic block then became the "ink pad" I used to stamp the butterflies from Papillon Potpourri.
Yes, I do finally have my own butterfly punches and stamps!
The Easter Blessings stamp is really big enough to carry it's own weight as the focal point. The butterflies might have been a little over the top with this card but they are on there and they aren't coming off.

Folk Art Valentine a la Secret Garden

A little bit of clear embossing, a few passes through the Big Shot, a Crumb Cake card base and voila, a folk artsy valentine. The flower (from Secret Garden) embossing on the heart mimics the look of a wrapped up heart. I thought of adding in some white gel pen but decided to leave that experiment for another card. You might not see it in the photo but the leaves are embossed on Wild Wasabi. That is why one turns up and the other down. I could have made them more symmetrical if I had not embossed them. But, I like the curve that having them turned that way provides.

Feeling a little guilty about how simple this was, I added a strip of white die cut "eyelet" from the Finishing Touches set.

Do you like this color combination? For me it is a classic. It was about the only combination that I liked with my first ever Stampin' Up! inkpad, Glorious Green. Wild Wasabi does fill in nicely with more uses! One of the other cards with a similar combination is this card. Others are here and here.

Belle Rooster

This one of my favorite quick and easy cards AND it is a great way to use the larger patterned papers that I sometimes have trouble incorporating into my work. In fact I had cut up a whole sheet of Belle Chateau to make some last minute convention swaps but forgot to add the lovely Soft Suede taffeta ribbon to my bag.

Card Base: Pink Pirouette (111351)

DSP: Belle Chateau (122357)

Stamps: Perfectly Penned (122890 w, 122892 c)

Ink: Soft Suede (115657)

Accessories: Square Lattice (119967), Big Shot (113439), Soft Suede taffeta ribbon (122967)

Perfectly Penned was one of the two sets I brought with for a little stamping night with my downline. It proved to be quite popular! Luckily one of them won the set during a prize giveaway during one of the general sessions.

I used the Berry Blossoms DSP (122350) and Lucky Limeade Ruffled Ribbon (122977) on a Whisper White card base (100730).
