Love is the theme for today's blog hop with the Stamping Inkspirations Group.
Well, I am done with Valentines so I'm going with what I love in the stamping world. Tough choice: there's checks and stripes and dots, along with just about any shade of pink, and roses and new stamp sets and.... wait a minute! I REALLY LOVE to have play dates with new stamp sets: and I mean play! No card plan in mind, just playing around with the stamps to really understand how they work together. Sometimes I leave out this step because I'm in a hurry to get a specific card or maybe a challenge done, but really there's nothing quite like just playing with the images. That goes for dies too. Sometimes I've had a die for a really long time before I actually use it and and then I'm amazed to see how well it works with it's partners and regret that I haven't played with it earlier.
So, this blog post is going to be based on a play date I had with the Brushed Blooms bundle last week.
HERE'S WHAT I PLAYED WITH:
- I pulled out two ink pads, Petal Pink and Soft Sea Foam along with some 1/4 sheets of Very Vanilla cardstock plus a few of Petal Pink and Soft Sea Foam.
- I played first with the dots and the brushstroke stamps. I got some fun, informal looking check like patterns with the brushstroke image, plus some that were on the diagonal.
- The somewhat irregular dots are really fun and fairly easy to line up to get a consistent sheet of dots.
- Then I did some loose overlap stamping ( I call this sloppy stamping) that includes some second and third generation stamping. I think it will be helpful to make a few masks for the rose images too. I also did some tone on tone stamping with the roses, varying the images sizes with the Petal Pink.
- One things to keep in mind when you are stamping on Very Vanilla is that the stamped images are just a teeny tiny bit warmer than they would be with Basic White (the newer version of Whisper White). The cardstock still coordinates though it isn't quite as close as if you had stamped on white.
- On to the dies:
- I was anxious to see how the large brushstroke die worked. My Stampin' Cut N' Emboss is on the tight side. Detailed Dies always cut on the first pass. This left a slight impression on my cardstock though I find it hardly noticable once a card is completed.
- You can also cut this from printer paper and use it as a stencil.
- On to the layered roses. There are three layers and they are pretty easy to line up. You can do the coloring on these in SO many ways. 1) all one color 2) all one color and then sponge the layers to different shades 3) use 2-3 colors of cardstock 4) start with a piece having blended colors 5) or use DSP watercolor patterns or specialty papers.
- The leaf has two layers and these can be used with 1 or 2 colors.
- Don't forget to try out the little die cut stamped rosebud. You can also, of course, use single layers with the stamped roses and leaf.
Here is my first trio of finished cards. As you can see, I pulled in the Pinewood Planks and Tasteful Textile folders, the Calypso Coral ink pad and Very Vanilla ribbons to finish these.
I used a mix of embossing folders with some of my "sloppy" stamping in this card.
- I used just a portion of the sheet of diagonal checks for this card.
- The stamped layer was embossed with Tasteful Textile.
- The simple tied Very Vanilla bow is from the Greenery trim duo.
The brushtroke die makes a very quick and striking card!
- I placed a 1/4 sheet Very Vanilla die cut over a Petal Pink card base.
- The rose has a plain Petal Pink base. Then I sponged the next two layers with Calypso Coral, using a little more ink on the upper/top layer.
Using the stamped and die cut images:
- Once again I used just a portion of a sheet of checked patterns. This along with a piece of Pinewood Planks, a skinny piece of Petal Pink and some Scalloped Lace are layered on to a Very Vanilla card base.
- This card makes use of the little rose buds too!
And you know what? I didn't really stop there. I cleaned off my stamps so that I could play with another pink, Magenta Madness. Stop back soon to see what I did with those colors... Now it's time to check out what the other Stamping Inkspirations bloggers have to say about "Love".
