Back to the Daisies with a Case the Design Team Challenge

This week the Paper Craft Crew is doing something a little different:

I have a sketch I've shared a few times that I have chosen to share again for this challenge - and then did the challenge myself.  Here's the previous card I posted on the challenge itself. (And, of course, you are welcome to case anything else you find on my blog for this challenge.)

• I originally blogged about this card here.
• While most of the cards I do don't have very fussy measurements if you'd like a starting point cut your embossed layer to 5 1/2" x 3 3/4". Layer a strip behind that with about 1/16" showing. My white greeting strip measures 3 3/4' x 1 3/4". I didn't measure the Misty Moonlight strips that border the white strip. You can see that mine don't match.  They are roughly 1/16" and I put the slightly thicker one on the bottom, just because I normally keep my cards a little "bottom-heavy" if you know what I mean...
  
• I loved the effect I got by having the right daisy sort of falling off of the card. And the way the Dainty Diamonds Embossing folder worked on the background.
• So, I tried to recreate it with snowflakes:

A few hints for this card:

• This is basically the same sketch though I left off the horizontal strips that I previously added to the greeting layer.
• After embossing the Snowflake Splendor DSP with the Winter Snow embossing folder I lightly sanded the snowflakes revealing a bit of the white core of the paper.
• I doubled up the snowflakes to make them a bit firmer.

Daisies for a Friend

I just jumping in with a quick post today since I also need to work on a couple of posts for tomorrow...  This is a bit of a revision of an earlier card but with current products. I did it for a color challenge I'm hosting today over at Splitcoaststampers and to be honest I was quite tickled with the way it turned out.

• Dessert for this challenge is to use white craft ink, which I used on the Dainty Diamonds 3D embossing folder before running a piece of Night of Navy cardstock through my NEW Cut and Emboss Machine. These will be available in early September! I was so happy with the way it turned out. I just gently tapped the pad onto the inside of the folder - on the side with the Stampin' Up! logo.  The Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge allows you to add any colors in the Stampin' Up! Neutrals so Night of Navy gets to be part of the challenge if you wish.
• I added cut off about 5/8" off one side and flipped this strip over and attached it underneath to provide extra contrast on the white card base.
• I used a white scrap for my Misty Moonlight greeting and added a few skinny strips for upper and lower borders. I didn't worry about the strips being even but did pay attention to using the thicker one on the bottom. I tend to like putting more weight on the bottom of an element than on the top.
• My daisies from Daisy Lane were stamped with Misty Moonlight after stamping on scratch paper twice before stamping each one on my Whisper White cardstock. You will sometimes see this referred to as 2nd, actually 3rd, generation stamping. Then they were punched with the coordinating punches and layered 2 deep. The centers are colored with the Mango Melody Blends.
• I used some Granny Apple Green leaves cut with the Boho Indigo dies. They aren't what I would say are botanically correct but I felt they looked at home with these daisies.
• I tried to add some embellishment dots but in the end it seemed that the "flatness" of the white craft on the background looked better without any added shimmer and shine.

Here is a look at pile of color combination pieces I had assembled before diverging on this card.  It looks like I have a little more assembling to do...

Daisly Lane Meets the Beads & Baubles Embossing Folder

This is one of my favorite cards and though the daisy stamps and punches will continue into the next catalog a couple of important components are retiring and I wanted to make sure you had a chance to consider whether you might need them in your stamp stash.

Wouldn't this card be great tucked into a care package?

• I'm really going to miss Blueberry Bushel! It's such a clear, bright blue and just look how great it looks with a little white craft ink applied to the inside of the Beads & Baubles Embossing Folder. This folder will be retiring AND on sale, while supplies last for $5.95 (US). Doesn't it kind of look like little raindrops are falling on the daisies?
• The daisies are stamped in Seaside Spray with images from the Daisy Lane set and punched with corresponding punches. You need two punched with the large punch and 4 punched with the medium punch. This card really shows off the advantage of having more than one size of a flower. It looks so much more natural. I also really like the effect that having one of the daisies go off of the front gives to the overall look.
• The Perennial Essence Floral Centers are a bright and fuzzy.  Since they are a little thick you may need to include extra postage if you mail a card with these though, of course. they won't add any extra cost if you are able to give it in person or include it in a package. Besides, you save a lot buying them since they are currently on sale, $3.60 for a package of 18. They are a wonderful tactile addition and I simply adore the way they look with Blueberry Bushel!

It's Really Just All About the White Space

Today I'm here with a brand new, exciting blog hop group: Around the World on Wednesday. What fun! Though I've long appreciated that fact that Stampin' Up! is an international company, that seems even more special now as we all work together - and alone - in our own ways to get through these difficult days. So, I'm excited to share with you all and then to point you towards some friends around the world that share my passion for papercrafting.

This month's theme is "All Things Crafty" - things I need for my creativity. Hmmm? My first thought is everything in my craft room? Well then, what was the first thing I HAD to stock up on when faced with staying home for possibly weeks? White cardstock! 3 packs! So that's it.  I need white space.  When I look through some of my favorite work, it usually has quite a bit of white space. Today I'm going to share a couple of cards using a favorite sketch that show that white space is anything but plain and boring!

Both cards use the stamp set Vibrant Vases:

• This is my latest version, featuring the Ornate Garden Specialty paper, Ornate Floral embossing folder and Gilded Gems, along with the Vase Builder Punch and the Vibrant Vases stamp set.

• I just had to do an extra photo so you could see the pretty sparkle of the Gilded Gems and Gold Foil AND the beautiful texture of the Ornate Floral folder.
• The pretty Mint Macaron with gold foil filigree specialty paper provides the theme for the overall look of this card. I used it for both my border and vases.
• The foil used as the "surface" in my circle is run through the embossing folder and then turned 90 degrees and run through a second time giving it a textile type texture. I butt the embossed gold foil piece up to a piece of Whisper White thick and apply regular tape from the back before cutting these with the largest Stitched Shapes circle die.
• I backed up the circle and the vases with extra shapes so these pieces are quite firm.
• Stems in the filled vase are also from the Vase Builder punch.
• One of the things I really like about this layout is that the measurements aren't fussy.  You need some strips cut to the measurement of your card height for the border and another strip cut the width for your sentiment. You can vary the width of these as you see fit.

Here is the original card I "cased". I first designed it while I was part of the Dirty Dozen Design Team over on Splitcoaststampers last year. We created projects that could only be shared with their fan club for 6 months.  Since I haven't yet shared it on my blog, today is a good time to share it here since it was the starting point for the first card.

• I used a retired Simple Stripes folder for my "surface" since I didn't yet have the Pinewoood Planks folder which would be another good choice.  Pinewood Planks is current as I write this.
• I was working from a inspiration photo of traditional looking blue and white vases and was thrilled with the contemporary spin lent by the See a Silhouette Designer Series Paper. The solid vase in the middle is just the back side of the pattern with the white stripe-ish pattern.
  
• The greens were cut from Granny Apple Green with dies from Bouquet Bunch.

Ornate Garden Meets Petal Pink and Terra Cotta Tile

I'm back today to share a few more items from the Ornate Garden Suite mixed in with some other favorites in my stamping stash.  I hope these give you a few ideas if you finding a little more time to craft...

 

• This card featuring the Hold on to Hope stamp set and coordinating dies could easily be an Easter, sympathy or thinking of you card.
• Colors are Petal Pink with Terra Cotta Tile.
• The background is done with the Ornate Floral 3D embossing folder.

• I did this for a color challenge a few weeks back. After stamping the beautiful floral spray from Ornate Style in Tuxedo Black Memento ink, I used Lovely Lipstick, Pumpkin Pie and Petal Pink combos (even though the challenge called for Melon Mambo + Blushing Bride + Grapefruit Grove) since they were closest colors, along with the Mossy Meadow Combos. I'm on the design team for the Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge. The challenge allows us to use the closest colors you have to the listed challenge colors PLUS any colors from the Neutrals.
• The 5th largest/4th smallest of the nested Stitched Rectangle Dies works great for fitting into this lacey frame from Ornate Layers Dies.
• Greeting is from Ornate Thanks.

• Doesn't the Ornate Border look so delicate in this simple Petal Pink Notecard?
• As of today these are marked low inventory so don't delay if these are on your wish list.

• One more that wasn't in the trio photo  - no Petal Pink but it does use the Terra Cotta Tile, a color featured in the Ornate Garden Specialty Paper.
• Daisy Lane was used for the greeting AND the Early Espresso stamped flower centers - stamped on Soft Suede and hand cut.
• The border is another from Ornate Border Dies.
• This also features the Ornate Garden ribbon which comes in Terra Cotta Tile and Old Olive.

April Palette Trio

My trio today uses the April Palette I've introduced earlier this month. This palette includes Petal Pink, Grapefruit Grove, Fresh Fig, Mint Macaron, Coastal Cabana.  March customers received thank you gifts that included product samples that work with these colors.  April customers will receive a selection in a new color grouping.

I'm still trying to get 3 projects done using retiring, carryover and new catalog preview sets. So far, so good!

My new catalog preview looks a little familiar doesn't it. 

• Smile  It's your time to shine.  This features Daisy Lane, a companion set to Daisy Delight .  The existing punch works with this set and there will also be a smaller one!
• Colors are simple here: Mint Macaron with Petal Pink and Grapefruit Grove.
  
• The lovely ribbon, Mint Macaron 1/4" Textile Ribbon is also new. Soft and very tie-able.
• The Buffalo Check background stamp and Delicate Lace dies are also featured.
• Grapefruit Grove faceted dots are lovely with this card. Sadly, they will retire soon.

• My carryover card features the Beauty Abounds Bundle with its fabulous dies.
• This is very similar to a card I did this past winter. While I adore the beautifully detailed Butterfly dies I still like some "white" space on my card, even it it is Petal Pink! The previous card used the scarce Grapefruit Grove Foil.  This one has watercolor paper that has been splattered with the April Palette colors.  I used an aquapainter and ink from my ink pad lids.
• The greeting is "A friend is someone who chooses you..." with "...out of a whole world of people."  on the inside.
• The paper is Petal Pink and the embossed white message is also from Beauty Abounds.
• Embellishments: Basic Pearls.

Finally, we have a few sets that I'm sad to be saying goodbye to:

• The greeting is from Friendly Expressions, great greetings that are all capable of being the focal point on your cards.
• Colors are Fresh Fig, Petal Pink, Mint Macaron. Playful Backgrounds is perfect for making your own background paper, ANY COLOR YOU WANT. I'm going to miss the stripe like pattern, especially.
