Wonderful Romance, Vellum and Lace

Hi everybody. Welcome to a new week!  Today I'm blog hopping with a wonderful group of demonstrators who are part of Kylie's Demonstrator Training group.

Today's card was inspired by a piece of Fresh Fig paper lace.

I had run the Fresh Fig cardstock through the Big Shot with a Lace embossing folder that had been inked up on the inside of the label side with Whisper White craft ink. It seemed a bit darker than my normal style to use the whole piece of Fresh fig so I trimmed around the scallops in the embossed design to get a smaller piece.  When I held it up to the gorgeous printed vellum I couldn't resist making those two pieces cover my whole card.

More details:

• The 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card base is Petal Pink, giving it a warmer look.
• The tag is also Petal Pink and it is punched with the Tag Topper Scalloped Punch. The bottom two corners are rounder with the Detailed Trio punch.
• The greeting is stamped in Fresh Fig and embellished with a few sprigs I handcut from the vellum. It really doesn't take long to hand trim these.  Sometimes we get spoiled with the Big Shot and forget that it isn't that hard to cut by hand.
• The Petal Pink Variegated Ribbon is also from the Wonderful Romance Suite.   A little bit of White Baker's Twine attaches the tag to the ribbon.

Wonderful Romance Emboss Resist Card

Spring will come...

someday.

And in anticipation that it is going to start showing itself sometime, I'm bringing back the spring-like bouquet from the Wonderful Romance Bundle. To be totally honest, this was probably a 10 minute card, start to finish. Because that is about all the time I had to get it done.

Inspiration came from today's Splitcoaststamper Color Challenge, CC729.  I'm happy to share that I am one of 3 guest designers for that challenge this month.

The colors are Granny Apple Green + Melon Mambo + So Saffron + Pool Party  Desert, which is optional, is to add a spring image.

Well, most of my day Monday was devoted to a stamping event with one of my downline. But I knew I would need to get this card done and photographed before I left home.  One of my favorite stamps this season is the bouquet from Wonderful Romance and it really came to the rescue. It works perfectly with these colors which gift it a lovely spring look.

• I started by stamping the bouquet with Versamark ink on watercolor paper.  I applied clear embossing powder and heated it just until it was shiny. This is a fine line and you need to watch carefully to avoid overheating the powder.
• I grabbed an aquapainter and marked out the center of the three flowers with a tiny bit of So Saffron ink on the tip of my brush. I used ink in my ink pad covers to do my watercolor.
• It isn't easy to paint a clear embossed image so I kept the stamp case with the image nearby for reference.
• Once I knew where the flowers were I started adding a light wash of green to everything else so I could start to see the clear embossing which resists the watercolor, hence the term "emboss resist". I dabbed some So Saffron on the tiny sprays but they still weren't showing up well so I add a little green there and deepened the green on some of the smaller leaves.
• I added a Pool Party blue wash but it really wasn't working for me.  So I finished up the water coloring by doing the 3 little flowers in Melon Mambo. Then I cut it out with the matching die the little details in the die cut helped to keep the bouquet in focus.
  
• Next I trimmed a 3 3/4" x 5" piece of watercolor paper and did a soft Pool Party wash on it, squeezing on a fair amount of water onto the ink pad lid to make sure the wash was light. 
• I stamped "Thinking of You" in Granny Apple Green on a 1" x 3 3/4" piece of Whisper White and layered the greeting and cut out bouquet over the Pool Party Wash.
• This was layered onto a  3 7/8" x 5 1/8" piece of Pool Party cardstock and then onto a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" Whisper White card.
• A few pearls from the Share What You Love Artisan Pearls in the center of the three flowers were the finishing touch.

Romancing the New Country Floral Embossing Folder

Hello papercrafters!

I spent yesterday re-organizing my stamp shelves and cleaning well, actually, playing with the new Country Floral Embossing Folder and then just plain experimenting with ink and the Flowering Desert stamp set. And then one thing kept leading to another and my desk still needs to be cleaned. Let's just say I have a LOT of new ideas that need to turn into finished projects so that I can share them with you. 

Edited to add:  The Country Floral Embossing Folder is a new addition to Stampin' Up!'s Sale-A-Bration lineup.  You can get it for free with a $50 order through the rest of Sale-A-Bration which goes through March 31, 2019 OR until it runs out.  While I don't have a crystal ball, from the response this folder is getting, I would not be surprised if the supply is depleted prior to the end of March. Anyway, when I saw today's color challenge at Splitcoaststampers (Pear Pizzazz + Daffodil Delight + White) I new exactly what I would finish first. Besides, as we stare down another winter storm warning something summery is called for.

I had almost the exact card I would need laid out ready to assemble except I needed to switch up the yellows to Daffodil Delight instead of Crushed Curry. (Once it is watered down, Crushed Curry would still easily work with the Daffodil Gingham. It just wouldn't have been true to the challenge.) Now I still have an embossed piece that will become something else.

• I colored right onto the inner embossing folder (Stampin' Up! logo side) with my Daffodil Delight and Pear Pizzazz markers, boosting the color in the center of the flowers with a tiny bit of Daffodil Delight ink refill. If I was to do it again I would use Old Olive or even a little Mossy Meadow. The Pear Pizzazz got a little lost with the water.
• Once I thought I had enough color I spritzed it and ran it through the Big Shot with a piece of watercolor paper. 
• This is a 4 1/2" x 6" card - I didn't want to trim any more of the embossed layer than I had to.
• The edge is from the Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper 6" x 6" stack along with a Whisper White die cut lace edge - Delicate Lace Edgelits.
• I tied some Pear Pizzazz Shimmer ribbon over the "seam".
• The message and it's embellishments are from the Wonderful Romance Bundle.  I thought the delicate oval would be just right and the little flowers echo the 4 petaled flowers in the embossing folder. A bonus with this set of thinlets is that there are of the little flower dies so that you don't have to make so many passes through the Big Shot. I used Pear Pizzazz and Daffodil Delight to stay with the color challenge.
  
• There's not a lot of white space with this one but maybe that isn't Country Floral's style.

More Crumb Cake Lace

I'm back again today to share one of the cards I created to use up some of the Lace embossed card stock I made up for the color challenge cards I did last week. (I had embossed 2 6" x 6" pieces of Crumb Cake card stock, inking the folder well with white craft ink.)

• This card was inspired by a Debbie Hughes card I'd pinned on Pinterest some time ago. I've been wanting to try it with the new Lace folder and then I got a little carried away adding things to it. 
• I decided to use a square instead of a rectangle. I don't know that the measurements are particularly important. You just want to work with the design of the folder you use.  I like to make mine fairly symmetrical. I cut my white square about 1/8" larger and after mounting the Lace embossed layer to it, I attach it to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
• Once again it features the same foliage pieces from the Wonderful Romance Bundle that I featured on yesterday's card. I stamped with either Crumb Cake or Whisper White craft ink + White embossing powder.  You can emboss with Versamark too but I already had the White out for the embossing folder.  It is also easier to see the white ink on the paper if you are stamping multiple images to emboss.
• The Crumb Cake foliage pieces are popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals.
• I originally used a bow tied with the Whisper White Flax ribbon and then decided to use just a piece tied in a knot.  I tied on a Sahara Sand colored button from Stampin' Up!'s Needle Nook Suite with some Linen thread.

Just a Bit of Foil

I saw so many possibilities with this week's Paper Players' Sketch Challenge.

One was to use some of the lovely foliage elements in the Wonderful Romance Bundle.

• Papers include Blushing Bride, Gray Granite, Vellum, Whisper White and some scraps of Grapefruit Grove Foil. 
• I used the 2 1/4" circle punch to make a circle in the lower right portion of a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Blushing Bride and then added some texture to this layer with the Subtle embossing folder.
  
• I embossed the leaves/ branch from Wonderful Romance in white on vellum and die cut with the corresponding die.
• One of the other dies is a more textured leaf though it doesn't correspond to any of the stamps in the set.  I cut that one out of Whisper White card stock.
• The foil is part of the Sale-A-Bration promotion and Stampin' Up! is telling us that the foil is going over so well that they think it won't last through March 31 when Sale-A-Bration ends. I saved all the scraps after making my partial butterfly card for a swap last week.  They are perfect for making little embellishments like the sprig and butterfly that I used on this card. Though the butterfly card used Petal Pink, I think I like Blushing Bride just as well with the foil.
  
• I embossed "sending prayers" in white on Gray Granite card stock and cut it out with the smallest of the Rectangle Stitched framelits.  I saw Su Mohr do this with the sympathy message from Itty Bitty Greetings and have since found that quite a few of the messages in that set fit into that framelit.  Wouldn't it be great to have a stash of these ready to go?
  
• This greeting wasn't centered since I knew I wanted room to add a little butterfly. I used the Butterfly Beauty dies to cut this out of a scrap of foil. The set of dies has multiples of the small butterfly dies so it is easy to create a little stash of these with just a few passes through the Big Shot.
  
• I didn't have my so called ducks in a row in order to link my card over on the Paper Players site before leaving on a trip this weekend but it certainly is an inspiring sketch.  You might just see me use it again soon.

I was just playing around taking pictures of this card when I thought I'd like to see what the metallic sequins looked like.  Though I didn't use them on this card, they certainly do look like they fit right in with this color combination. Keep that idea for another time...

A Wonderful Twist on Romance

I know I have probably made a few too many posts with Wonderful Romance but we tried a different style with it when I had some members of my downline here to stamp this past Saturday and I thought you might like to see it's versatility - or maybe even try this out with another set.  First of all I need to point out that I was inspired by a card I found on Pinterest. It was made by Yana Smakula and the link goes to her Instagram account. I did not find it in the 1st 40 or so pages but I trust that it is there somewhere. It is important to me that I share my sources of inspiration with you. Anyway here's what I did:

• White emboss the floral bouquet from Wonderful Romance a few times on the top part of a 1/4 sheet Basic Black cardstock and a few more times near the bottom.
• Trim off about 1 - 1 1/4" from one side - look to see if it would make a difference depending on the arrangement of the images you embossed. Add a 5 1/2" strip of Lemon Lime Twist card stock underneath the right edge and mount onto a Whisper White card base.
• White emboss 2 -3 more bouquets on Lemon Lime Twist and cut out with the matching die. Cut a leaflet from the die set too.  I suggested everyone emboss three  bouquets  and cut as many extra embellishments as they could fit on the paper - then they had an extra if one didn't turn as well or they would have an extra pieces to take home.
• Emboss a greeting on a 1 - 1/4" x 5 1/2" Basic Black Strip and trim to 4 1/4" to get the placement that looks best to your eye.
• Adhere the leaflet over this strip on the left side.
• Tie 20" piece of Lemon Lime Twist Ombre ribbon around the card, somewhat covering the end of the leaflet stem.
• Optional - add a basic white pearl somewhere on your greeting.

Monochromatic Wonderful Romance

The Floral Romance Suite has many possibilities and I've barely started to try them out. Today I have a green and white beauty to share with you.

• The Lace Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder is sure to be a hit when the 2019 Occasions catalog goes live. It is a 6" x6" folder. It's best to emboss a piece larger than you will need and then trim it down. All that texture kind of shrinks your paper down.  It is also a large design and you may decide that you want it to be symmetrical so that you can center it easily on your card.
• Use many shades of green, just like you see many sahdes of green in nature.  It will give your work a little more realistic look.
• Layering white on white is a very elegant look and it allows you to work even with a limited selection of paper.

Getting to Know Wonderful Romance

Today I'm blog hopping with Kylie Bertucci's demonstrator group.

I wanted to get to more familiar with an upcoming suite of products called the Floral Romance Suite so I started off like I did yesterday by making a simple card.  This is a quick technique I've done for at workshops:

• I chose to use Petal Pink ink for my card because I wanted to try out the delicately colored variegated ribbon. You just stamp the image towards the top of a card sized piece of cardstock leaving 1-2 inches blank at the bottom.
• Get a paintbrush or q-tip wet and run it 1/4 to 1/2" or so below your image to soften the fibers. Once it has had a few seconds to sink in, tear your cardstock along the wet line.
• Set aside for the edge to dry a bit.
• Stamp your greeting at the bottom of a card in the same color ink as your image.
• Sponge the torn edge with this same ink.
• If you like tie a ribbon around the torn edge layer just below your image.  For this card I chose to line up the tie at the base of the bouquet.
• Adhere the torn layer so that the message shows at the bottom.

Then I saw a new color challenge over at Splitcoaststampers I decided to mix them all up together and this is what I got:

The colors in the challenge are Petal Pink, Mint Macaron and Highland Heather, plus neutrals. After experimenting with cardstock scraps I decided to use Sahara Sand and Whisper White as my neutrals.  I thought it was kind of a challenging combination but was pretty happy with the way it turned out.

• I stamped the same bouquet in Sahara Sand and colored it with Mint Macaron, Petal Pink, and Highalnd Heather Blends. Then I cut it out with the coordinating framelits from the Wonderful Floral die set.  These will be available in a bundle when the Occasions catalog goes live on January 3rd.
• I tried out the Lace Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder by tapping the inside of the side labeled with Stampin' Up! with White craft ink and running it through the Big Shot with a piece of Sahara Sand cardstock.  You could leave off the craft ink but I like how it makes the pattern pop and look a little aged at the same time.
• This piece was trimmed down to 3 1/8" x 5 1/2" and then I lined one edge with a strip of Petal Pink so that about 1/8" shows through. "Thinking of You" from the stamp set was stamped in Sahara Sand and again layered with a bit of Petal Pink cardstock.
• I popped the bouquet up with mini dimensionals and added a few Artisan pearls for good measure.
